Percutaneous ventricular assist devices (pVADs) offer circulatory support and assist in LV offloading to stabilize patients for high risk procedures.
In this report we present the case of a relatively young patient who presented with an acute anterior wall STEMI with concomitant critical AS complicated by severe cardiogenic shock.
Impella CP was used for hemodynamic support initially during STEMI, and then TandemHeart Percutaneous Ventricular Assist Device was used to successfully support the patient through high-risk Balloon Aortic Valvuloplasty (BAV) and later during Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) when surgery was not a suitable option because of extremely surgical risk.
