This makes robotic knee revision possible in any situation including one stage revision of infected prostheses and revision of static spacers when the patient does not have a knee implant. In addition, long press-fit stems can be used if the surgeon wishes to avoid fully cemented stems.
In this technique, implants or spacers are removed first, trials are placed to provide registration surfaces without attention to size or gap balancing, then pins and trackers are inserted to begin the robotic procedure. The indications, rational, and technique are described.
