PRC offers the potential advantage of greater range of motion, technical ease, decreased immobilization, and eliminates specific complications found with other motion preserving procedures such as nonunion, hardware irritation and impingement. An established contraindication for PRC is the presence of advanced capitolunate arthritis. Many authors have offered modifications of the traditional PRC procedure to account for the presence of capitate arthritis. A PRC technique utilizing an osteochondral autograft, from the carpal bank of excised bones, for transfer to the capitate defect is described.
