read more ↘ But treatment options have recently been discussed controversially. In recent years, several studies demonstrated better results with operative treatment, especially for displaced fractures.
This video summarizes the current thinking on midshaft clavicle fractures and leads through a case of superior plate fixation with an anatomically preshaped plate. The superior placement has been shown to have the highest load to failure and preshaped plates are in favor for reducing bothersome and painful hardware prominence.
The authors have included many surgical pearls and pitfalls for this procedure, which should help both the novice and the experienced traumatologist, shoulder specialist, or general orthopedic surgeon in the management of midshaft clavicle fractures. Hopefully these ‘pearls’ will translate into more successful surgical practice and better postoperative outcomes.
