Tanmay Swadia, MD, shares two cases of patients with right ventricular (RV) cardiogenic shock. Case one is a 65-year-old male with acute massive pulmonary embolism with RV shock. In this patient, Dr. Swadia highlights that Impella RP support “led to this U-turn in his course and gave him back a completely normal life afterward.” Case two is a 36-year-old male who presents with recurrent PEA arrests after a noncardiac outpatient procedure. Dr. Swadia states, “One of the most dramatic things I’ve ever seen is as soon as we got this device in, he didn’t need CPR.” Speaking about Impella RP, he concludes, “I think this is going to be a game changer in managing RV shock, and I think we’ll see more and more success stories elsewhere.” Dr. Swadia is an interventional cardiologist and cath lab director at Michigan Heart, St. Mary Mercy Hospital in Livonia, Michigan.
