TARGET AUDIENCE
This activity is designed to meet the needs of physicians, physician assistants, pharmacists, registered nurses, nurse practitioners, advance practice registered nurses, and registered dietitians with an interest in lipid management.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this activity, all participants should be able to:
- Discuss strategies to improve the knowledge, skills or performance of the healthcare team;
NLA Opening Session- Exploring Divergent Perspectives on Lp(a) and LDL-C Management
- Outline approaches to identifying patients with elevated Lp(a) who may be at risk for CV events.
- Apply the most recent guidelines to manage patients with elevated LDL-C.
- Appraise the clinical evidence for conventional and investigational therapies for the management of Lp(a).
- Consider the safety and efficacy of current and emerging therapies for the reduction of LDL-C in patients with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD).
Session I- Genetic Basis of Lipid/Lipoprotein Disorders and Cardiovascular Risk
- Recognize how genetic factors impact lipoprotein metabolism in various disorders including the role of screening and the identification of novel therapeutic targets to prevent atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
Session II- Scientific Statements
- Review current literature of importance to the science and practice of clinical lipidology.
Session III– Cardiorheumatology
- Discuss the role of inflammation as a contributor to cardiovascular disease.
- Review the use of imaging and biologics in managing inflammation and effects on cardiovascular disease.
- Describe the use of anti-inflammatory agents in the treatment of cardiovascular disease.
Session IV- Woman’s Cardiovascular Challenges
- Discuss potential cardiovascular risks associated with pregnancy, PCOS and menopause.
W. Virgil Brown Lecture Award Presentation
- Evaluate the management of patients with dyslipidemia.
Session V – Abstract Submission and Award Winners
- Critically appraise emerging research and its applications to daily clinical practice.
Session VI- NLA/EAS Joint Session 2024
From a to B, then Back to LDL: Transatlantic Views on the Lipoproteins that Cause Plaque
- Evaluate the use of diagnostic measures to assess cardiovascular risk.
- Discuss evidence regarding the utility of apolipoprotein-B (apo-B) as a target for CVD risk modification including the clinical implications for patient management.
- Assess a patient’s level of cardiometabolic risk and the appropriate targets for treatment.
Session VII – Make it Happen…
- Develop strategies for effectively communicating lipid management plans to patients, promoting adherence to prescribed interventions and lifestyle changes.
- Recognize the interdisciplinary approach to lipid management, emphasizing collaboration among healthcare providers, pharmacists, and other health professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
Session VIII – Putting it Together in the Clinic for the Community and the Individual
- Discuss the potential role of the health system in optimizing lipid management.
- Recognize primary and secondary causes of hypertriglyceridemia.
- Explain the management of complex patients through case discussions.
ACCREDITATION
Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 13.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine's (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity.
