The periportal approach to peripheral compartment work can be especially compact for surgeons that are new to the technique or familiar with large capsulotomy approaches. This procedure has several technical points to ensure successful placement and capsular retraction in the peripheral compartment via a periportal technique. The technique does not need to be performed on every hip arthroscopy case, but it can be very helpful in more complex cases where greater access and visualization is needed.
